In the year 2025, BGMS celebrates our 50th Anniversary!

We are so proud to have served the Buffalo Grove community for half a century, providing high-quality education and nurturing environments for children, Infants to 6 years old. As one of the oldest Montessori schools in Illinois, we have a rich history of shaping young minds and helping them grow into confident and independent individuals.
Our School was started by our Executive Director, Deborah LaPorte and her husband Victor in 1975.  Victor Laporte (also a Montessori teacher) and Deborah LaPorte opened their first school with their own toddler. They were on a mission to create a beautiful environment and facilitate an experience that would provide the framework that would encourage all children to fulfill their innate potential. Their school expanded. One program led to another as their own family grew to include three children and two schools. Their children are all grown, professional “Montessorians” in their own right and are continuing their family legacy. The Laporte Families ten grandchildren are either alum or current students. We are an all Montessori all the time family!
Our school is located on at 950 Ellen Dr, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089 and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Our classrooms are designed to encourage hands-on learning, allowing children to explore their interests and learn at their own pace. We believe that every child is unique and has their own talents and abilities, which is why our curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of each individual student.
Buffalo Grove Montessori will be hosting our annual Valentine Ball & 50th Anniversary Event on 1/31/2025 with DJ, cake, ice cream, photo booth, face painting and tattoos, cash bar for parents.
6:30-8:30pm on Friday, Jan 31st at Astoria Banquets 1375 W Dundee Road, Buffalo Grove.
This event is not open to the public.  Only currently enrolled students and parents are invited. However, Alumni are always welcome or encouraged to attend.

Please help us on congratulating Kate LaPorte on being named head of Buffalo Grove Montessori School!

Kate is not only the head of our Buffalo Grove Montessori School, she is also director and educational coordinator at our sister school in Hanover Park, Greenbrook Montessori School. She enjoys her job because she gets to be involved in each of our classrooms supporting the children and teachers. Getting to know the families as I do orientations, meetings and school events is a fulfilling part of my job.
Kate began her teacher training in 1997 after the birth of my oldest daughter. She fell in love with the birth -three concepts that Montessori had to offer. She went on to take the 3-6 training and enjoyed working in those classrooms while her own children also attended the program. Kate believes that letting children have some free choice and independence is key to helping them develop into confident adults.

◊◊ ◊ ◊ Respect

Both people and property have value. We choose to value people by treating them with care and gentleness. Kind words and patience teach your child to trust your instructions. Choosing to care for property in a manner that preserves its value sends a consistent message of respect to your child.

◊◊ ◊ ◊ A Prepared Environment

Preparing the home environment allows us to show respect for your child and her property. Attention to child sized furnishings and easy to wear clothing help your child to be as independent as possible, while ensuring success in their endeavors.

◊◊ ◊ ◊ Independence

The skills of independence are acquired through persistent effort and patience. Your child can do much for herself if we are able to allow it. Include her in the tasks of daily life; putting plates on the table, folding towels or getting dressed. Small accomplishments encourage the child to tackle ever larger tasks. We must believe our children are capable before they can believe it themselves.

◊◊ ◊ ◊ Success

Success is vital to your child’s willingness to stretch and grow. It keeps him reaching out for new challenges and teaches him to believe in himself. When you trust your child for even the smallest task, your child begins to trust himself.

It was a great place for our daughters and we would have never left except we moved to a different suburb. Our teachers were excellent and they have fun family outings like the Valentines Day dance. We miss BGMS but we will always be part of the family and recommend them for any parents looking for daycare options in the area.
